“California Zinfandel”
2007 Big River Ranch zinfandel

“Scents of cedar, crushed violets and purple grapes lead this juicy zin, a simpler wine than this vineyard has produced in recent vintages. There's fatness to the fruit as well as sweetness. For brisket.” 90 Points

2007 Lily Hill Estate zinfandel

“Lily Hill is on the western slope of the Dry Creek Valley, including a ten-acre block of zin planted in 1915, just above Bella’s winery and caves. Mike Dashe, the consulting winemaker, co-ferments a small fraction of syrah (five percent) with the zin, which may bring out the slightly reduced, wild animal side of the wine. It has a cedary high note and ripe, almost peachy fruit. With air the wine takes on a cooler, foresty tone, marked by scents of blueberry, raspberry and rose. The flavors are remarkably long. Let it settle into a decanter and you’ll have the ultimate Thanksgiving turnkey wine, equally suited to Fourth of July fireworks.” 94 Points

2007 Big River Ranch zinfandel

“Minty and low-key at first, with some passion fruit tones over wild cherry fruit, with nice framing notes of ash, roasted herbs, preserved lemons, and cigar wrapper. This is fantastic in the mouth: smooth, supple, and polished, with excellent intensity for wild berry fruit supported by soft tannins and integrated acids. This needs some air to really get going but, once it begins to open, it reveals layers of earthy, toasty notes with flourishes of herb and spice. The finish offers up lovely fruit, with perhaps an edge of pomegranate that keeps pumping away. This is gorgeous Zinfandel, richly flavored but with great reserve. Love the texture and length of this wine.”94 Points
