VINIFICATION NOTES: 2018 was an incredible growing season, with moderate temperatures leading to extended hangtime. We picked the syrah and grenache from two block of Lily Hill Vineyard. The syrah was picked on October 1st, and the grenache on October 3rd, both early in the cool morning to preserve freshness. Fruit was then hand sorted and de-stemmed, before being placed in two steel tanks: a closed-top tank for syrah with twice-daily pumpovers, and an open-top tank for grenache with twice-daily punchdowns. Fruit spent an average of 18 days on the skins before being pressed and placed into barrel for an incredible 27 months. Oak was 17% new, with 58% being French, 17% American, 17% Hungarian, and 8% Russian.
VINEYARD NOTES: Lily Hill Vineyard has become synonymous with zinfandels of elegance and substance. From the first plantings in 1915 to the blocks planted in 2001, this majestic hillside vineyard benefits from cooler nights and warmer days.
SENSORY NOTES: An incredible new world take on a Côtes du Rhône wine, the 2018 The Crossing merges dark red fruit with savory aromas of dusty earth and fresh wild herbs. On the palate, a beautiful full body comes alive with figs, fresh sage, leather and darker black fruits. With an incredible full body and huge structure, this wine will age for years to come. Suggested to decant if opened before 2024.
