Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Appellation: Russian River Valley
Sensory Notes: Both dynamic and complex, the 2017 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir displays an alluring nose of sarsaparilla, raspberry and violets, as well as hints of savory herbs. On the bright, engaging palate, red fruit flavors of Bing cherry, wild raspberry and plum are framed by notes of cinnamon, sage and clove that carry through to a long, focused finish.
Winemaker Notes: After a long 2017 growing season, in the run-up to harvest we had a perfectly timed heat spike, followed by an equally fortuitous cooldown that allowed the grapes to ripen to perfect maturity, while retaining excellent acidity. The grapes from each vineyard were harvested by hand at night, and cold soaked for five-to-seven days, with one pump-over a day. Each vineyard was individually fermented using native yeast, and once fermentation began, we switched to two punch-downs daily. The wine was aged for 11 months in 100% French oak barrels, 30% of which were new.
