Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir

Appellation: Sonoma Coast

Sensory Notes: This delicious wine begins with a fascinating nose of wild blackberry, rhubarb, flowers, sage, leather, and foraged mushrooms. The blackberry notes continue on the palate, where they mingle with layers of dark cherry, clove, and spice. Fine-grained tannins and excellent acidity add length and focus to a bright fruit finish.

Vineyard Notes: Planted in 2001, this cool-climate site was planted and is farmed by our vineyard manager, Charlie Chenoweth. In search of the best pinot noir site in the Sonoma Coast appellation, we came across this beautiful, sloping vineyard tucked away in the redwoods. Driving away, we noticed three black birds perched above the vineyard, watching over the vines. This north-facing vineyard is west of the town of Occidental, making it an extremely cool site.

Winemaking Notes: Our Three Perch fruit is comprised of three clones, which we harvested in two pickings: the 777 clone fruit was picked on September 17th, followed by the Calera and Pommard clones on October 7th. The fruit was sorted by hand, followed by a five day cold soak. Fermentation lasted for 15 days, during which twice daily punch downs were performed. The pinot noir was aged for 11 months in 100% French oak, 40% new.
