2005 Two Patch zinfandel
Vinification notes:
Zinfandel fruit for our Two Patch was destemmed and crushed after being brought in from the respective properties. There was a two-day cold soak followed by 17 days of fermentation. The yeast in this zin was primarily native. Pumpovers were performed in a submerged cap tank twice a day for one hour at a time before pressing at full dryness. Sensory Notes: The 2005 Two Patch zinfandel is a smooth-drinking wine that wonderfully showcases the best of two Alexander Valley properties. This zin exhibits a solid crimson hue and has elements of ripe figs, clove and vanilla on the nose. On the palate, it is bursting with flavors of strawberry, anise and blackcurrant. The wine is silky-smooth and is ready to drink now but will age well for 6-8 years. Vineyard Notes: This zinfandel is made up of fruit from two premier vineyards in the Alexander Valley. The first is our Big River Ranch, where we are privileged to tend 14 acres of zinfandel over 110 years old. These ancient vines produce low yields of superbly ripe, intense fruit. The Todd Brothers ranch is the other source of grapes for this wine. The vines are perched on a rocky, west-facing hillside and deliver top-notch zinfandel fruit. Vintage Synopsis: The 2005 harvest was a banner year for many wine regions. A long, cool growing climate allowed the grapes to hang until their optimal ripeness. This resulted in more intense flavors as well as a leisurely crush that extended fully into November. Strictly limited production. Only 410 cases produced. |
