2007 Hillside Cuvée
Vinification notes: Grapes for this unique blend were harvested from our Big River Ranch and brought to the winery at optimum ripeness. The varietals were fermented separately, with time on the skins averaging 12 days. Aging occurred in our wine cave for 14 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels.
Sensory Notes: This wine is bright and spicy on the nose, with aromas of baking spices, sweet oak and ripe plum immediately evident. On the palate it is medium-bodied and juicy. An extended finish of rich vanilla follows lush flavors of cranberry and cassis. Vineyard Notes: The Hillside Cuvée is a blend of varietals from the Big River Ranch, our premium Alexander Valley property. This vineyard is located at the southern, cooler end of the valley, allowing later harvest dates and extended hang time for all of the varietals we grow there. In addition to our renowned old vine zin from this ranch, we grow top-notch petite sirah, syrah and cabernet as well. Vintage Synopsis: In 2007 we experienced a steady summer of warm days and cool, foggy nights, ideal growing conditions for top-notch winegrapes. 2007 wines have excellent concentration with full but soft tannins. The vintage balances power and finesse and is perhaps the best year in Sonoma County in the last decade. Cellar Recommendations: Enjoy this wine from 2010 until 2016. Strictly limited production. Only 600 cases produced.
