2006 Dry Creek Valley zinfandel
variety: 100% zinfandel
appellation: Dry Creek Valley
maturation: aged in a combination of French and American oak for 15 months
alcohol: 14.8%
Vinification notes:
This classic Dry Creek zinfandel was de-stemmed and fermentation began immediately and continued for 15 days. Pumpovers were performed twice daily in a submerged-cap tank. The maceration was gentle and without excessive skin contact, resulting in a classic, mouth-filling zinfandel. The wine was pressed off at dryness.

Sensory Notes:
The Dry Creek zin starts out with a pretty nose of raspberry, plum and vanilla spice before engulfing the palate with bright fruit and a rush of sweet oaky tannin. The finish is deliciously soft and lingers with a hint of cherry and cream. This classic wine is extremely approachable now and will cellar well through 2012.

Vineyard Notes:
A combination of two select ranches was utilized to make our 2006 Dry Creek zin. This blending of fruit from old head trained vines is our tribute to the classic zinfandels that have made the Dry Creek Valley one of the top viticultural areas in the world. Thin, clay-heavy soil and steep hillside vineyards apply the needed stress that make these vines produce the best fruit they can.

Vintage Synopsis:
2006 was a challenging but rewarding harvest season. Cooler temperatures made for a prolonged harvest that allowed the grapes to develop deep, rich flavor and color. The brief threat of rain in early October put us on the alert, but with some moderate thinning and cluster sorting, an excellent vintage was achieved. A good balance of sugar and acid in the fruit yielded dark, complex wines that rank among the best we have ever released.

Strictly limited production.
