2007 Big River Ranch syrah
Vinification notes: This top-notch syrah was crushed and destemmed before fermenting on the skins for 14 days in a submerged cap tank. The wine was pressed and barreled down in a combination of French and American oak barrels. Aging occurred in our wine cave for 16 months.
Sensory Notes: The Big River syrah is, year-to-year, our boldest and most memorable syrah. Its dark hue and stirring bouquet of licorice and espresso immediately set it apart from the rest. This full-bodied wine engulfs the palate with rich flavors of blackberry and caramel-tinged spice. An incredible accompaniment to grilled meats and hearty winter dishes alike, this rousing syrah is one of our best yet. Vineyard Notes: Our premium Alexander Valley property, the Big River Ranch, is located on the boundary between the Alexander Valley and the Russian River valley. The hillside location is fortunate to have the cool nights and foggy mornings typical of the Russian River Valley, while also warming up later in the day to provide the warmth for development of full-bodied flavors in the grapes. Vintage Synopsis: In 2007 we experienced a steady summer of warm days and cool nights, ideal growing conditions for top-notch winegrapes. 2007 wines have excellent concentration with full but soft tannins. The vintage balances power and finesse and is perhaps the best year in Sonoma County in the last decade. Cellar Recommendations: Best from 2011 to 2016 Strictly limited production. Only 475 cases produced.
